During an interview with SongFacts, the 65-year-old vocalist discussed his latest solo album, The Mandrake Project, and provided insights into the demanding aspects of his illustrious career. When queried about the most arduous Iron Maiden song to perform live, Dickinson’s response may surprise some enthusiasts.
“The song I find most challenging to sing in the Maiden repertoire would be ‘Aces High.’ And that’s not just because I’m in my 60s,” he admitted. “Believe me, when I was 26, it was equally demanding. I always said, ‘If we’re going to include ‘Aces High,’ could we place it towards the beginning of the set, please?'”

“Nevertheless, we persist in performing all the songs in their original keys. I’m certain it would be simpler if we lowered the key, but then it wouldn’t possess the same resonance. That’s the most demanding Maiden song vocally.”
Although “Aces High” may pose the greatest vocal challenge for Dickinson within the Iron Maiden repertoire, he finds his solo material generally less demanding owing to his involvement in the songwriting process.

“Regarding solo material, I’m not entirely sure. Since I composed the vocal parts, I’m quite comfortable with them. It’s not necessarily that the songs are difficult to sing,” Bruce elucidated. “I believe with good sound and reliable monitors, you can proficiently deliver all the solo catalog. However, if the sound quality is subpar, one must exercise caution, especially with tracks like ‘Darkside Of Aquarius’ and ‘Book Of Thel,’ to avoid straining the voice due to inadequate monitor feedback.”
