Denver topples Boston College to win NCAA championship
Denver Claims Record-Setting 10th National Championship Title!
The University of Denver Pioneers etched their name deeper into college hockey history on Saturday night, defeating the top-seeded Boston College Eagles 2-0 to capture their 10th national championship. This victory not only crowns Denver champions, but also cements their place as the winningest program in NCAA hockey, surpassing the University of Michigan’s record of nine titles.
Dominant Goaltending, Timely Scoring Secure Victory
Junior goaltender Matt Davis was a brick wall for the Pioneers, turning aside a staggering 35 shots and earning his third shutout of the season. His heroics, including 23 saves in the crucial third period, extended his consecutive start streak to a career-high 26 games.

Denver’s offense delivered key goals in the second period. With just over ten minutes remaining, Jared Wright opened the scoring on a shot that deflected off both the post and Boston College goalie Jacob Fowler before finding the net. Rieger Lorenz doubled the lead shortly after, finishing a pass from Zeev Buium for his 16th goal of the season. This goal marked a milestone for the Pioneers, as Lorenz became the 10th Denver player to reach the 30-point mark this season.
Resilient Denver Overcomes Strong Opponent
Boston College, boasting a program-record 34 wins and a 15-game winning streak, entered the game as the favorites. However, they were unable to penetrate Denver’s defense and were shut out for the first time since March of 2023.

A Championship Built on Teamwork
Despite the individual brilliance of Davis, Coach David Carle emphasized the team effort that propelled Denver to victory. “It’s a total team effort to do what we do at Denver,” Carle said. “This run we’re on is a reflection of the people that we have.” The Pioneers have now won at least 30 games in three consecutive seasons, a testament to their consistent excellence.
