In the quarter finals, Mexico faced Brazil and won 2-1 on aggregate after drawing 1-1 in Brazil and winning 3-2 at home thanks to braces from Andres Guardado and Hirving Lozano as well as another penalty shootout victory over Neymar Jr.. This saw them face Belgium in the semi finals where they lost 4-2 on aggregate after losing both legs 1-0.
