History of the South Sydney Rabbitohs

South Sydney Rabbitohs are an Australian professional rugby league team based in Redfern, a suburb of inner-city Sydney. They participate in the National Rugby League (NRL) premiership and are one of nine existing teams from the state of New South Wales. They are also one of the oldest rugby league clubs in Australia, having been formed in 1908.

The club was established in 1908 as one of the foundation clubs of rugby league football in Australia and has competed continually since then. The Rabbitohs have won 20 premierships and are considered one of rugby league’s most successful clubs. In addition to their on-field achievements, they are also known for their large and passionate supporter base, which is the largest of any club in Australasia.

The Rabbitohs’ home ground is ANZ Stadium in Sydney Olympic Park, which they share with fellow NRL club Wests Tigers. The club’s training facilities and administrative headquarters are located at Redfern Oval, also in Redfern.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs were founded on January 17, 1908 at a meeting held at Redfern Town Hall when businessman James Giltinan was elected as chairman and ER Lander as secretary.
