How to make the Ugly Sweater Sweatshirt Christmas

If you’re like me and you love a good Christmas sweater, but don’t want to get stuck wearing the same ol’ ones year after year, this crochet Ugly Sweater Sweatshirt pattern is for you! Not only does it have a fun holiday print, but it’s also super cozy and comfortable. Plus, it’s sized for both men and women so there’s sure to be one to fit everyone in your family.

To make this pattern, you’ll need a lightweight Worsted weight yarn (I used Patons Classic Wool), a J hook (or size needed to obtain the correct gauge), scrap yarn for provisional cast on, tapestry needle, 1 stitch marker and scissors.

Begin by making a slip knot with your scrap yarn and put it on the hook. Chose your favorite color(s) of yarn and join into the slip knot with a basic sc worked in between each stitch (see video tutorial below). Be sure to leave a long tail so that you can weave in the ends later.

Next, work 12 sc into the ch-1 space. You now have two pieces of fabric – one will be significantly wider than the other. We’re going to start sewing these pieces together using our provisional cast on method (see video tutorial below). Put your first piece of fabric down onto your work surface so that one long edge is facing up. Place your second piece of fabric over top of the first piece, aligning their edges together

The Materials You Will Need

If you’re anything like me, you love nothing more than a good horror movie marathon during the winter. But what if your holiday knitting project turned out to be…well, quite a bit uglier than any sweater you’ve ever seen? Fear not! I’ve created a festive knitting pattern inspired by some of my favorite horror movies.

For this project, you will need:

-Sport weight yarn in red, green, and black (I used Wool of the Andes Sport weight yarn in Red Heart Super Saver brand)

-Size H crochet hook

-Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

-Stitch marker to indicate beginning of round

-Scissors
