Metcalf’s impressive speed of 22.2 miles per hour on his 73-yard touchdown against the Cowboys in Week 13, recorded by Next Gen Stats, sparked excitement in Miami’s wide receivers room. Dolphins’ wide receiver coach, Wes Welker, suggested to Hill that a summer race between the two could be organized.

“You just need to put a race together this summer,” Welker proposed.

While Welker persisted, Hill, less enthused, responded, “I’m not racing nobody. I don’t get paid for that, bruh.”

Undeterred, Welker continued to pitch the idea, envisioning a platform with sponsors and a million-dollar deal. Although Hill didn’t seem entirely convinced, he admitted during practice that he had reached 23 mph in his rookie year but doubted he would achieve that speed again.

Despite Hill’s reluctance to engage in off-field races, his on-field performance is nothing short of spectacular. Against the Commanders, Hill achieved a historic feat, becoming the fourth player in NFL history and the first in the Super Bowl era to amass 1,400 or more receiving yards and 10 or more receiving TDs in the first 12 games of a season, as per NFL Research. Furthermore, Hill is on track to become the first wide receiver in history to surpass 2,000 receiving yards in a single season.
