The Nexo is a compact SUV propelled by hydrogen, emitting only water, and capable of covering up to 380 miles between refueling sessions. However, the challenge lies in the necessity for access to a hydrogen filling station for these refueling stops.
As per the U.S. Department of Energy, there are a mere 63 hydrogen filling stations in all of North America, with three in Vancouver, one in Quebec, and the remainder situated in California, primarily in Sacramento or farther south. Consequently, Hyundai exclusively markets the Nexo in the state of California.
For residents of California who seldom venture beyond 190 miles from the nearest hydrogen refueling stations, the Nexo might be an ideal choice. Our experienced test driver commended the pleasant interior and the “overall futuristic look of the cabin” but remarked on its lack of the spirited performance found in electric cars.
