Jamie Foxx Responds Emotionally to BET Awards Tribute: I Have So Much Love to Give
Jamie Foxx, known for his humor and energy, fought back tears as he received the Ultimate Icon Award at the BET Awards on Monday, following a heartfelt tribute from artists such as Babyface, Jennifer Hudson, and T-Pain. The emotional moment came after legendary musician Stevie Wonder presented the honor to Foxx.
Reflecting on his life and challenges, Foxx said through tears, “When I saw that in memoriam, I was like, ‘Man, that could’ve been me.’ But I don’t know why I went through what I went through, but I know my second chance, I’m not gonna turn it down. I’m not gonna turn it down. I have so much love to give. I told him, I said, ‘Man, bro, just give me one more crack at this, and I promise — for whatever reason you put this on me — I promise, I’m gonna do right.'”

Foxx expressed deep gratitude for the support he’s received from the Black community and promised to honor his second chance at life. “You can’t go through something like that and not testify,” he said, as the camera panned to his daughters, Corinne and Anelise, who were visibly moved by the moment.
The emotional speech comes after Foxx faced a health scare in April 2023, when he suffered a stroke caused by a brain bleed. The Oscar winner, known for his portrayal of Ray Charles in Ray, spent a month in the hospital and later discovered he had lost memory of a 20-day period.

“I woke up on May 4th,” Foxx recalled. “And when I woke up, I found myself in a wheelchair. I couldn’t walk. In a wheelchair. And I was like, ‘What the f—, why am I in a wheelchair?'” After months of rehab and therapy, Foxx slowly regained his health.
During his acceptance speech, Foxx took a moment to thank his younger sister, Deidra Dixon, for her unwavering support. “She made sure that she took care of her brother,” he said, as Dixon covered her face in emotion. The heartfelt gratitude extended to his daughters, Anelise, 16, and Corinne, 31, as Foxx continued to tearfully express his thanks.
“At a certain point, I’m gonna stop crying,” Foxx joked, “But I ain’t gonna stop just yet.”

Despite the emotion, Foxx couldn’t resist making the audience laugh. He entertained the crowd with a lighthearted review of his career, referencing iconic roles such as Wanda from In Living Color, footballer Willie Beaman from Any Given Sunday, and the 2005 hit song “Gold Digger,” which he collaborated on with Kanye West.
The crowd roared with laughter when Foxx playfully did an impression of Stevie Wonder, who had presented him with the award. Wonder, ever the comedian, had the first laugh, introducing Foxx by saying, “Jamie and I go waaaay back. He hit me up a lot of times because of his win — the Academy Award for Ray — and I said, ‘Jamie, just because you played a blind man, that don’t mean that we’re besties, okay?'”
The exchange between the two friends was a perfect mix of humor and genuine affection, leaving the audience both laughing and teary-eyed at the special moment.
