Mercer County going all out to celebrate St. Patricks Day
No blarney here—Mercer County’s tourist promotion agency is investing $20,000 to enhance local St. Patrick’s Day festivities.
Peggy Mazyck, the agency’s president and CEO, expressed the board’s desire to spotlight offerings during the offseason. St. Patrick’s Day, falling on a Sunday this year, prompts an extended celebration from Friday onwards, featuring everything Irish, from meals to music.

VisitMercerCountyPA, the county’s tourism promotion agency, plans to distribute $100 in “tourism dollars” to 200 people for St. Patrick’s Day. While similar promotions have been conducted before, this one introduces a few new twists. Interested individuals must sign up on the agency’s Facebook page, with the signup sheet available for 24 hours at an undisclosed time before the weekend.
If more than 200 apply, winners will be drawn randomly, limited to three individuals from the same address. With 20,000 Facebook followers, a drawing appears likely. Tourism Bucks, issued in $10 and $20 denominations, must be utilized over the weekend at participating businesses, including hotels, restaurants, and bars.

The second annual Slainte Sharon St. Patrick’s Day Parade, building on last year’s success, takes place on Saturday, March 16, in downtown Sharon. Encouraging pets and owners to participate in costume, the parade includes charitable donations for local animal organizations.
Sharon Downtown Initiative’s Shamrock’n Brew Tour, slated for March 16, visits local breweries, culminating in an Irish dinner at Grove City Country Club. With an increased fee aiming for three buses this year, the tour attracted a full two buses last year.

Other local restaurants, like The Block and the Apollo Maennerchor Club in Sharon, are promoting St. Patrick’s Day meals with live music.
For an early celebration of the Emerald Isle, the “Night of Irish Music” festival is set for 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Corinthian Banquet in downtown Sharon. Hosted by the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division, the event features free admission and collects non-perishable food for St. Joseph’s Food Pantry. Musicians, singers, and the Burke School of Irish Dance will perform, with traditional Irish food and drinks available.
On Sunday, harpist Alissa Pesavento will perform traditional Irish tunes from 11 a.m. to noon at Greenville Public Library, offering a free and family-friendly show.
