One such potential trade involved two AFC teams in different situations. According to sources cited by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the New York Jets attempted to acquire star wide receiver Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders before the trade deadline. However, the Raiders, who subsequently parted ways with head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager David Ziegler shortly after the deadline, reportedly had no interest in trading Adams.

The Jets had been contemplating the idea of reuniting the 30-year-old Adams with the currently injured Aaron Rodgers, with whom he formed a formidable duo during their time with the Green Bay Packers. This move would have also given the Jets another reliable option alongside the young Garrett Wilson. Currently, Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb are the primary receiving options for Zach Wilson, who has been filling in for the injured Rodgers, and the Jets are currently third in the AFC East with a 4-3 record.
In contrast, the Raiders find themselves in a similar third-place position in the AFC West with a 3-5 record. They are now relying on rookie Aidan O’Connell to ignite their offense under the interim head coach Antonio Pierce and the new offensive coordinator Bo Hardegree. The veteran signing Jimmy Garoppolo, who arrived from the San Francisco 49ers, has not been in top form.

Last year, Adams racked up an impressive 1,516 receiving yards, but this season, he has accumulated 539 yards on 47 receptions and three touchdowns. The Raiders secured him with a five-year, $141 million deal when they acquired him from Green Bay in the 2022 offseason.
