However, with advancements in the EV market over the past two years, Porsche is taking steps to elevate the Taycan to new heights, aiming to compete with rivals like Tesla’s Model S and the Lucid Air.

While the new Taycan has been spotted testing at the Nürburgring, Porsche has now teased the upgraded EV in a different setting, showcasing its capabilities beyond the racetrack. A pre-series version of the Taycan recently set a lap time of 7:07:55 at the Nürburgring, outperforming the Tesla Model S by 18 seconds.

The back-and-forth battle for lap time records between Porsche and Tesla continues, with the new Taycan being described as “in the same league as electric hypercars” by Kevin Giek, the head of the model line. The pre-series Taycan is just over two seconds behind the Rimac Nevera’s record.

Porsche has conducted extensive testing on the upgraded Taycan, covering 2.2 million test miles on proving grounds, racetracks, and public roads globally. The tests included extreme conditions, from California’s Death Valley with temperatures exceeding +127°F (53°C) to the freezing conditions north of the Finnish Arctic Circle. The new Taycan demonstrated exceptional driving dynamics on snow and ice, with Giek stating, “Faster, higher, further,” emphasizing improvements in every discipline compared to its predecessor.

The upgraded Taycan will come with extensive modifications across all three trims, including an off-road package for the Taycan Cross Turismo.
