A Texas man, Wyndle Dorsie Shepherd Jr. (31), was sentenced to 15 years in prison on drug and gun charges stemming from a traffic stop in Alabama. U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona announced the sentencing on Tuesday.

Shepherd, a convicted felon, pleaded guilty in November 2023. He admitted to possessing meth with intent to distribute, having a firearm during a drug crime, and being a felon with a gun.

During a traffic stop in March 2022, a Demopolis police officer pulled Shepherd over for speeding on I-20/I-59. Shepherd, traveling alone back to Texas in a rental car, had various drugs and a loaded handgun in the vehicle. The Demopolis Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Brittney Plyler and Kristy Peoples handled the prosecution.

A Texas man, Wyndle Dorsie Shepherd Jr. (31), faces 180 months in prison after pleading guilty to drug and gun charges. U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona announced the sentencing on Tuesday.

Shepherd’s trouble began during a March 2022 traffic stop in Alabama. A Demopolis Police Department officer pulled him over for speeding as he traveled through the state on his way back to Texas. A search of his rental car revealed a loaded gun, ammunition, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

Shepherd’s criminal history disqualified him from possessing a firearm. He pleaded guilty in November 2023 to charges including possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possessing a firearm during drug trafficking, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) collaborated with the Demopolis Police Department on the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Brittney L. Plyler and Kristy M. Peoples handled the prosecution.
