The BMW M240i By G-Power Outpunches An M2 G87
In an era dominated by downsizing, BMW boldly stands apart. Defying convention, they offer a compact car with a six-cylinder engine, and we’re not even referring to the M2. The M Performance variant, featuring the acclaimed B58 engine, delivers a robust 374 horsepower straight from the factory, directing power to the rear wheels or an optional xDrive system. However, German tuner G-Power saw an opportunity to extract even more performance from the 3.0-liter powerhouse.
G-Power’s enhanced iteration of the top-tier G42 model has been meticulously tuned to unleash a staggering 520 hp, surpassing the formidable M2 G87. While specific torque figures remain undisclosed, it’s evident that G-Power’s modifications significantly elevate the engine’s output beyond BMW’s original 500 Nm (369 lb-ft). This substantial power boost wasn’t achieved solely through software tweaks; it also involved several mechanical enhancements to the inline-six.

Among the notable upgrades are a revised turbocharger, a bespoke charge air cooler, and a custom exhaust system featuring quad tips, lending the vehicle an aesthetic reminiscent of the M2. Impressively, G-Power asserts that opting for an M240i with their performance enhancements remains a more cost-effective proposition than purchasing an M2.

For those who find 520 hp excessive, G-Power offers alternative upgrade packages dialed to produce 420 hp, 450 hp, or 480 hp. Irrespective of the chosen package, G-Power recalibrates the ECU to harness the additional Bavarian power. Alternatively, customers can opt for individual upgrades, such as turbocharger replacements or enhancements to the factory configuration.
Complementing the performance enhancements are visual refinements, with this Brooklyn Grey M240i featuring G-Power’s own Hurricane RS forged 19-inch wheels wrapped in 245/35 front and 255/35 rear tires. While interior images are forthcoming, G-Power provides options such as carbon fiber shift paddles, velour floor mats, premium leather upholstery, and a modified steering wheel with carbon fiber inserts.

Looking ahead, BMW is slated to update the M240i later this year, potentially offering an optional carbon fiber roof starting with models produced from August. Rumors suggest that the G42 may receive additional color options (such as Zandvoort Blue and Skyscraper Grey), new wheel designs, and possibly a more luxurious interior featuring glass controls.
